The only ones I actually encountered on the test were similar to the hardest presented in each practice test. My version of the GRE was crawling with these, and I was ill-equipped to handle them. First, the quantitative comparison questions in the workbook are far too simplistic. I found this book helpful, but once it came to test day it only took me so far. But I guess that's why they're trying to pit the "Comprehensive" book instead. You know, those "How many different numbers can you creating using the digits 1 through 9, with no repetition and in descending order," type questions.
The second issues is that the book doesn't seem to address permutations and groups in much detail.
In these situations the very detailed problem solving you've learned elsewhere in the book are relatively useless.
I'm glad I used it and all of the practice problems and explanations were very helpful, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it will leave you fully prepared for the quant.
I would say there are two main issues.
Overall, I'm content with this as a study starting point.
When you have 1 minute per question, you can't really solve anything.
There should be more focus on shortcuts.
test.
Ah well, best of luck.
I read the other good reviews about this book and decided it would be worth trying out even though I had very little time before taking the GRE to study with the book. I have it under good authority the brand Kaplan since it helped on my other standardized test scores and this proved to be VERY helpful as well. It helped me raise my math score by over 100 pts which was totally exciting since I never was a math wizard or anything; I would highly recommend this book for other to use as well.
This book was excellent for word problems. I liked the way that the chapters are organized and the practice with quantitative comparison exercises. This book is better than the Barron's math workbook.
This book gives a thorough overview of the math topics on the GRE, but I wish it had more practice sets.
This is a great book because it has tons of practice questions with answers and explanations, and the only thing that ever helps me is practice, practice, practice. However, it doesn't cover coordinate geometry (the beloved y=mx+b etc). so be sure to get that somewhere before you take the test.
